Accessibility assessment

Object description

The museum is poorly accessible. There is a higher threshold at the entrance on the ground floor leading to the ticket office. The accessibility of the exhibition spaces on the ground floor is impeded by high thresholds. There are non-accessible sanitary facilities on the ground floor.

The exhibition spaces in the basements and the first floor are only accessible via stairs. There are high thresholds between many of the rooms. Some have contrasting visual markings.

In addition to the contrasting visual markings, the building has some exhibited items enabling tactile exploration of the exhibited material as well as tactile guides with braille.

Adaptations

  1. People with mobility impairments:
  2. The main entrance to the building is accessible via ramp,
  3. There is sufficient room to manoeuvre indoors.
  4. People with visual impairments:
  5. The reception desk is located in the immediate vicinity of the entrance,
  6. The edges of some stairs (outside stairs) have contrasting visual markings,
  7. The edges of the changes of level (thresholds) have contrasting visual markings,
  8. Selected exhibited items enable tactile exploration of the exhibition material.
  9. People with hearing impairments:
  10. The reception desk is adequately lit and enables lip-reading and interpreting facial expressions.

Deficiencies

  1. People with mobility impairments:
  2. The changes of level in the interior of the building (thresholds) are not adequately addressed,
  3. The building does not have a lift,
  4. The building does not have accessible sanitary facilities.
  5. People with visual impairments:
  6. The edges of some stairs do not have contrasting visual markings,
  7. The edges of some changes of level do not have contrasting visual markings.
  8. People with hearing impairments:
  9. The building is not equipped with an induction loop.
