Accessibility assessment

Object description

The gallery is easily accessible. There are steps and an external ramp in front of the main entrance. The landing in front of the door is not large enough and makes it difficult for wheelchair users to enter independently (the double doors open outwards). The gallery spans several floors that are accessible via lift. The exhibitions spaces provide sufficient room to manoeuvre and are adequately lit. The accessible sanitary facilities are on the ground floor.

Adaptations

  1. People with mobility impairments:
  2. The main entrance to the building is (partly) accessible, as the landing in front of the front door is too small to open the door,
  3. There is sufficient room to manoeuvre indoors,
  4. There is a suitably sized lift in the building,
  5. The building has accessible sanitary facilities.
  6. People with visual impairments:
  7. The ticket counter is located in the immediate vicinity of the entrance, but it is not contrasting enough,
  8. There are no abrupt transitions from light to dark spaces in the building,
  9. The lift buttons have raised tactile letters.
  10. People with hearing impairments:
  11. The ticket counter is adequately lit and enables lip-reading and interpreting facial expressions.

Deficiencies

  1. People with mobility impairments:
  2. There are no accessible parking spots,
  3. The landing in front of the main door is too small to open the door.
  4. People with visual impairments:
  5. The signboard at the main entrance is unsuitable,
  6. The signage and lettering in the building are not placed at suitable heights, do not have contrasting visual markings and are not readable,
  7. The edges of stairs and changes of level (in front of the entrance) do not have contrasting visual markings,
  8. None of the exhibited items enable tactile exploration of the exhibited material,
  9. The descriptions of the exhibited items are too small.
  10. People with hearing impairments:
  11. The ticket counter is not equipped with an induction loop (not a mandatory condition).
