Accessibility assessment

Object description

The museum is partially accessible. The reception desk is located to the left of the entrance. The lower level is accessible via a temporary ramp on the left side of the lobby and houses temporary exhibitions. The central staircase and lift can only be accessed via stairs, so a temporary ramp is installed here as well. Plans are underway to construct a permanent ramp. The lift is located next to the main staircase, but it is part of the private part of the museum, so the staff must enable access. The accessible sanitary facilities are located close to the lift. The exhibition spaces on the first floor are arranged in a circular route and are spacious and level. The exception is a small section of the exhibition that is only accessible via stairs. The museum has some exhibition materials that are suitable for tactile exploration. Some glass display cases in both the temporary and permanent station encroach on the height of the space and constitute a safety risk.

Adaptations

  1. People with mobility impairments:
  2. There is an accessible parking spot near the entrance,

  9. The lift buttons have raised tactile letters,
  10. The edges of stairs have contrasting visual markings,
  11. The necessary information is also provided audibly (headphones attached in certain spots),
  12. Selected exhibited items enable tactile exploration of the exhibition material.
  13. People with hearing impairments:
  14. There are no major adaptations for people with hearing impairments.

Deficiencies

  1. People with mobility impairments:
  2. The ramps in the building are temporary and do not have suitable gradients,
  3. The height of the reception desk is not adapted to wheelchair users,
  4. The building is only accessible with assistance,
  5. The building has a lift, but part of the exhibition is still only accessible via stairs,
  6. The exhibited items in the exhibition spaces are not placed at suitable heights.
  7. People with visual impairments:
  8. The glazed glass doors do not have contrasting visual markings,
  9. The window of the reception desk does not have contrasting visual markings,
  10. There are abrupt transitions from light to dark spaces in the building,
  11. Obstructions and solitary obstacles (glass display cases at a height) are not suitably marked.
