Accessibility assessment

Object description

The museum is easily accessible. The ticket office is located to the left of the entrance and is accessible via stairs. Wheelchair users can reach the ticket office by using the ramp from the wardrobe a bit further inside. The exhibition spaces are arranged around a multi-level central lobby. Access to them is possible via stairs or a lift. The stairs to the right of the entrance lead to temporary exhibition spaces. Access to the basement spaces housing artefacts from the Roman Emona is possible via a long winding ramp. Part of the basement also houses a café, which is accessible via lift. The upper floors feature exhibition spaces. There is sufficient room to manoeuvre. Many exhibited items enable tactile exploration of the exhibition material as well as the use of headphones with audio recordings. Tactile exhibition maps are provided next to the exhibition spaces. The accessible sanitary facilities are on the upper floor next to the staircase.

Adaptations

  1. People with mobility impairments:
  2. The main entrance to the building is accessible,
  3. The ramp at the reception desk enables independent use,
  4. There is sufficient room to manoeuvre indoors,
  5. There is a suitably sized lift in the building,
  6. The building has accessible sanitary facilities.
  7. People with visual impairments:
  8. Selected exhibited items enable tactile exploration of the exhibition material.
  9. People with hearing impairments:
  10. The reception desk is adequately lit and enables lip-reading and interpreting facial expressions.

Deficiencies

  1. People with mobility impairments:
  2. The ramp to the basement level has an unsuitable gradient and is too long.
  3. People with visual impairments:
  4. The glazed glass doors have contrasting visual markings, but they are not suitable,
  5. The reception desk is not located in the immediate vicinity of the entrance,
  6. The path to the remote reception desk is not marked with tactile floor markings,
  7. The edges of stairs do not have contrasting visual markings,
  8. The lift control panel uses an overly complicated navigation between floors, requiring the user to enter + and – when selecting floors or basement levels.
  9. People with hearing impairments:
  10. The building is not equipped with an induction loop.
